Reformers' Club 2007
The first annual Reformers’ Club meeting took place in Washington, DC, on April 13, 2007. The event gathered government officials who were instrumental in reforming the business environment in their country -- recognized as top reforming governments by the Doing Business report series. These reformers were acknowledged for their achievements and exchanged insights and experiences on business regulation reform solutions and impact at the meeting.
Celebrating Reforms - Doing Business case studies
Reforming business regulation takes leadership -- more than many other reforms, according to “Celebrating Reforms,” a joint publication of the World Bank and US Agency for International Development. In fact, the challenges can be daunting, as contributors Simeon Djankov and Caralee McLiesh explain: “In prosperous times, reformers are told not to rock the boat. In crisis times, they get the blame for not reforming sooner and averting the crisis. Some pursue reforms while receiving personal threats and threats to their families. It is hard to be a reformer.”
